Mechanical Engineering - Product Development Position

Introduction:
    Ideal Vacuum is looking for a mechanical design engineer to join our engineering group. Our team is a small group of creative, versatile engineers who can apply their diverse skillsets to multiple aspects of product research, development, and manufacturing at Ideal Vacuum.
    A successful applicant for this position can demonstrate a strong background in machine design, 3D CAD modeling, FEA/CFD analysis. Experience in pump or compressor design is a plus. The ability to self-direct and manage the development of a product line.
Responsibilities
    It is important that members of our engineering group mature into self-sufficient contributors to be successful. After completing OJT (on-job training) and probationary period, an engineer at Ideal Vacuum is:

  • Self-directed in assigned projects, with supervisor support
  • Compliant with Ideal Vacuum procedures and organizational systems
  • Able to coordinate and steward resources to meet timelines and milestones
  • Involved in multiple project phases from product definition to product deployment
  • A valuable contributing member of our engineering and development team
Education/Knowledge
  • B.S. Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ yr. experience in electrical design
  • SolidWorks CAD
  • Machine drawings
  • Design for Manufacture
  • GD&T (preferred)
  • MATLAB (preferred)
  • Molding/Casting (preferred)
  • Coding experience using VB.net (preferred)
Job Tasks
    As a design team member at Ideal Vacuum, a mechanical engineer is responsible to manage their own projects, in addition to contributing to team efforts when needed. Engineers provide verbal or written progress reports to their supervisor on assigned projects. The following items are common work activities for a mechanical engineer at Ideal Vacuum:

  • SolidWorks 3D modeling
  • Reverse engineering
  • Machine design (including pump design)
  • Conceptual design and product prototyping
  • Writing product manuals and technical documentation
  • Vendor interaction
  • Product test planning and analysis
  • Creation of manufacturing drawings and documentation packages for production
  • Support of project-related manufacturing and assembly
Package:
  • $28-$40/hr, depending on experience
